CARING FOR IGUANAS

Iguanas are popular pets, but their attraction seems to wear off once people realize how much care they need. Reptile rescue groups report getting several calls every day from people wanting to "get rid of" their iguanas. These reptiles demand a great deal of care in terms of proper caging, nutrition, temperature and special lighting. They grow to be more than 6 feet long and need huge cages or entire rooms to live in. They can be aggressive or shy, which many people do not like. They are currently illegal in the District of Columbia.

Iguanas require such specialized care that there isn't enough space here to detail all of the housing requirements, nutritional, medical, behavioral, and daily, weekly, monthly and yearly care they require. In fact, iguanas can die if any of the special care they need is neglected. Please visit http://pages.infinit.net/igtown/contents.htm for information about proper care of iguanas.
